20 Feb We’ll miss the London 2017 Athletic Championships, but hello Gold Coast 2018
Many people have already begun the countdown to the London 2017 IAAF World ParaAthletic Championships and the World Championships, being held respectively 14 – 23 July and 4 – 13 August. Over 200 countries will compete across 245 events for the 690 medals to be won. And this year is the first year that the World Championships and World ParaAthletic Championships have been held in the same city over the same summer, both at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Tickets are on sale now and selling fast, with adult prices from £10 for the World ParaAthletics Championships and from £20 for the World Championships. And in just a few weeks, after the three month long interview process, the IAAF are due to notify their 4000 successful volunteers, the ‘Runners’, who will be at the heart of the events and providing invaluable support to the event organisers.
Through all of this, and as we watch London prepare itself, we know that we won’t be able to make this one. Though we’ve made a name for ourselves at other major sporting events, Campingninja will be sadly sitting this one out.
But we do not despair, for we have so much to look forward to…
As the world prepares for London 2017, we will be busy preparing and accommodating thousands of visitors at CAMP CARDIFF, the dedicated campsite for the UEFA Championship Finals being held at the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff, 31st May – 5th June 2017. And while the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium fills with spectators to watch these amazing athletes, we’ll be amongst the crowds attracted to Edinburgh for our annual Edinburgh Festival Camping, the only campsite dedicated to the world’s largest arts festival, open 3 – 28 August 2017.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES GOLD COAST 2018
As with our London Olympics 2012 and Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 campsites, we will be hosting visitors, volunteers and work forces across different sites within the Gold Coast, all with transport links to the arenas.
With events being held up the Queensland coast, the Commonwealth Games 2018 also pose the perfect opportunity to see a bit of Australia. With events being held in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and the Gold Coast, if you’re a spectator or selected to be a volunteer, there is no better opportunity to check out this glorious state. With miles of white sandy beaches, the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and rainforest, whichever direction you take you are sure to find something magnificent.
Applications for volunteering at GC2018 are already open, so tell your mates and get those applications in!
